As usual, John Charles Ryle offers us a clear and concise book that leads us to reflect on our Christian life. Its intention is to make it a guide to help the Christian lead a holy life. In its own words, this book “deals with the daily duties, dangers, experiences and privileges of all who profess to be true Christians”.

This work, definitely centered on the gospel, sets out how Christians should practice the grace they have received in Jesus Christ. Ryle was fiercely opposed to superficial Christianity. In this text, he invites us to demonstrate our attachment to the Lord in a concrete way, that is, by serving and loving him with all our hearts.

John Charles Ryle was born in 1816 in Macclesfield, England. He converted in 1838 after hearing a sermon on Ephesians 2. At the age of 64 he became bishop of the Anglican Church of Liverpool. He held this post until his death in 1900. J. C. Ryle was both a pastor, a writer and a great advocate of nascent evangelism during the great revivals of the 18th and 19th centuries. He influenced his time by his direct and vigorous preaching.
