This book is a plea for God himself to be considered the supreme gift of the gospel, as he clearly and fully revealed it in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The precious blessings of the gospel are not, in the end, what makes the Good News good. Rather, their role is to lead us to see and fully appreciate our Savior himself. Forgiveness is good because it opens the way to joy in God. Justification is good because it allows us to access and revel in the presence of God. Eternal life is good because it promises an infinite source of enjoyment with our Savior.

All of God’s gifts are good and loving, for they lead us to God himself. God demonstrated his love by doing all that was necessary, even sacrificing his only begotten Son, to turn our hearts towards what is most deeply and most lastingly satisfactory for our souls, that is to say him- same.

Author

John Piper is the founder of the Desiring God ministry. For more than 30 years, he was the pastor of a Baptist Church in Minneapolis, United States. He has now retired and is devoting himself to a larger ministry. He is the author of numerous books, many of which have been translated into French.

Un livre très simple sur l'essentiel.

Trés simplement et étape par étape, John Piper nous amène à considérer, avec profondeur, que la plus grande bénédiction que Dieu nous offre, c'est Lui-même.

Avec brio, ce livre de John Piper répond à un grand besoin de raffermissement dans l'Évangile de la grâce : la personne et l'œuvre de Jésus-Christ, et tout ce que Dieu promet d'être pour nous en Jésus-Christ.

Dieu est l’Évangile

Comme chrétiens, nous savons que nous sommes rachetés si nous croyons au pouvoir de la croix de Christ. Mais bien que ceci soit le début du pèlerinage qui nous mène sur le chemin étroit de la vie éternelle, ce n’est pas le plus beau cadeau de l’Évangile.

Sommes-nous réellement centrés sur Christ ou simplement sur le billet qui nous mène à la vie éternelle? Quel est le vrai don que l’Évangile nous donne? John Piper nous offre un excellent ouvrage afin de voir et comprendre ce qu’est le plus grand don de l’Évangile. Est-ce que l’on accepte Dieu pour ce qu’Il nous donne ou pour ce qu’Il est ?

Ramener Dieu au centre de notre cœur, le contempler et le glorifier simplement, de tout notre cœur, toute notre âme et toutes nos forces. Voici la Bonne Nouvelle de l’Évangile, le plus grand des dons de l’Évangile : Dieu.
