<transcy>The Lord is my support (Le Seigneur est mon appui)</transcy>
Presentation
"Life is a part of happiness," proclaims the world, which promises an uninterrupted series of pleasures and amusements designed to satisfy the needs and desires of human beings. Experience shows that reality is often far removed from dreams, and this breeds disillusion and despair.
The "blows of life" do not spare Christians. Every day he faces the difficulties and stresses of life. It even seems that the experience of his faith creates new ones, unknown to other men. While his faith keeps him from surrendering to despair, questions and doubts nonetheless weigh on his mind. The answers are far from simple and dismay can be a daily companion.
The author was familiar with these moods. The Bible provided him with a source of deep and genuine comfort, but he saw how little Christians resort to in the midst of their turmoil. He therefore guides his brothers and sisters towards this inexhaustible source which reveals the comforting God.
Through short meditations, he applies the divine balm to the wounds of life. He thus shows that the support the believer needs in darkness is Christ alone, who blesses his people here below and hereafter.
