What is the evidence for the reliability of the Gospels? Are their stories historical? Can we trust them?

The Gospels are the four biblical accounts of the life of Jesus. Matthew and John were written by apostles, direct witnesses of the events they relate. Mark is signed by Peter's collaborator and Luc is the result of careful historical research. Careful study of their respective contributions will help us answer these questions.

New Testament scholar Professor Peter Williams has made his scholarship available to the general public to enable skeptics and scholars alike to form a firm conviction as to the reliability of the Gospels. It examines non-Christian sources, assesses the cultural relevance of the four biblical accounts, draws comparisons between them, considers recent research, and describes their transmission over the centuries.

This book plunges us into the heart of a meticulous and fascinating investigation. Over the course of the clues, you may well discover why the Gospels are reliable…

The popular, though far-fetched and baseless claim of Richard Dawkins that the only difference between the Da Vinci Code and the Gospels is that the Gospels are ancient fiction while the Da Vinci Code is modern fiction, deserves both a proper and scholarly response. No one is better qualified than Peter Williams to answer it. His book is a masterful, compelling and documented presentation showing that the whole of history revolves around Jesus.
-John C. Lennox, Professor emeritus of mathematics at the University of Oxford

This essential book offers a wealth of information for believers keen to learn more about the historical background of the Gospels, and presents a set of challenges for those who are skeptical of what we can know about Jesus. Peter Williams has concentrated a great deal of knowledge and thought in this short and accessible book which deserves to be read carefully by Christians and non-Christians alike.
-Simon Gathercole , Professor of the New Testament at Cambridge University

Despite the doctrine of the infallibility of the scriptures, believers today are reluctant to testify to their faith, whether for lack of clarity on the subject or for fear. To this puzzled and anxious little flock, Peter Williams provides deliverance in the form of a concise, admittedly, but comprehensive teaching. This manual, full of impact on the reliability of the Gospels, will accompany the faithful in “search of clarity” by offering them historically supported explanations, in response to questions they ask themselves, or which they may never have heard of. think. This precise, meticulously detailed and very easy-to-read book, rich in graphics and tables, will arouse the interest of believers and skeptics alike who will benefit from it all. A topical advocacy book, and a great guide: "Skeptics Beware! "
-Clare K. Rothschild , Professor of Scripture Studies at Lewis University.

Using her expertise and knowledge, yet still very accessible, Williams, one of the world's leading authorities on New Testament texts, leads the reader to discover the evidence for the historical reliability of the Gospels. This book shows why it is rational to trust the Gospels.
