Presentation

We sin for a “promise” of happiness. This promise enslaves us, until we believe that God is more desirable than life itself (Psalm 63.3). Only the power of a higher promise can free our hearts from deceptive bondage and the fleeting pleasure of sin. This promise is found in God.

John Piper shows us how to cut the roots of sin that clings to us and trap us. It analyzes the mechanisms of anxiety, pride, shame, impatience, bitterness, discouragement and lust.

The Gospel frees us to take advantage of God's promises, to live a life all to the glory of Christ. Firmly rooted in the Word of God, this reflection makes us taste the joys of victory. The gospel and the power of God are intensely more satisfying.
