Presentation

“We know, moreover, that all things work together for the good of those who love God, of those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

This book is an exhibition of that famous verse from the quill of the apostle Paul, so well known that it is easy to overlook. On the other hand, so many people revel in it, but only through human consolation. Thomas Watson does not follow this path. It aims to provide divine consolations to the people of God.

This is why he anchors his examination in the very nature of God, in his attributes, his promises and his mercies, the graces of his Spirit, the intercession of his Son, etc. All things work together for the good of "those who love God" because they have their source in the eternal decrees of God. The elect  "became heirs, having been predestinated at the will of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will" (Ephesians 1:11). Everything that happens is decreed from all eternity, but the essence and nature of God prohibits the slightest fatalism.

"All things work together for the good of those who love God" because these people are very close and very dear to the very heart of God. He is the God of the covenant, who said, “They will be my people, and I will be their God” (Jeremiah 32:38). This book does not hide evils, such as affliction, temptation, desertion, sin. It shows how and why God makes all these things work together for the good of the elect. It explores the meaning of love for God, as well as the love of God.

Author

Thomas Watson (1616-1688) - He was one of the most famous English pastors of his time. He was persecuted for his refusal to compromise the gospel by submitting to the wicked edicts of his king.
