Presentation

In a world of increasing pastoral failure and burnout, Pastor John MacArthur has been faithful in his ministry. What kept him on track, what protected him from discouragement, fatigue and even failure? He was strongly influenced by the apostle Paul, who was faithful to the end despite slander, persecution, and suffering. In this book, John MacArthur examines the words of the apostle Paul and draws out nine fundamental beliefs that will support church leaders in ministry. He encourages pastors to persevere and stay faithful until the very end.

Recommendations

“It seems quite right that a book with this title comes from the pen of a man whose life and ministry exemplify such faithfulness. Here is a useful, stimulating and resounding call to persevere in our turn! »
- Alistair Begg, pastor, Parkside Church, Chagrin Falls, Ohio

“What should we do when we encounter difficulties in our ministry? John MacArthur presents nine reasons why the apostle Paul did not lose heart. This short, concise text is marked by the clarity of the Gospel and filled with relevant observations. While remaining specific and honest, direct and encouraging, clear and straightforward, MacArthur paints a portrait of a role model to follow. He reminds us that the faithful pastor, like the apostle Paul, must reflect Christ. Unintentionally, MacArthur wrote his own autobiography. »
- Mark Dever, Pastor, Capitol Hill Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.; president, 9Marks

"If Charles Spurgeon could say of John Bunyan, 'Poke him anywhere, you will see that even his blood is biblical", we can surely say of John MacArthur: "Poke him anywhere and you will see that his blood is Pauline "! In these pages MacArthur offers us a powerful guide that instantly dispels any confused thoughts we may have in our day about pastoral ministry. If that doesn't make you want to be a more faithful servant of Jesus Christ, beware. »
- Sinclair B. Ferguson, Professor of Systematic Theology, Reformed Theological Seminary; Bible teacher, Ligonier Ministries

"His entire days of teaching in the various training programs at Masters Seminary are a testament to John MacArthur's loyalty and his desire to pass on to others what he himself has received. Thus, he is clearly part of that line "of faithful men, able to teach others also" (2 Timothy 2: 2). »
- Gilles Despins, professor, Theological School ProFAC

“I have known John MacArthur since 1983, when I went to Grace Community Church in Los Angeles to train to be a missionary. What impresses me most about him is that he has stayed true to his calling. He is still there: he studies, he preaches, he trains, he inspires, he writes ... Just like me, he is aging, but he continues his ministry relentlessly, as if he did not grow old. What an example of perseverance! What a joy to see the clarity of his call! He has been a tremendous source of inspiration and encouragement to me for my missionary work in Europe. My prayer today is that I may remain true to my calling as he was to his. I want to finish the race like John MacArthur is. "
- John Glass, Founder and Principal Teacher of the International Evangelical Church in Geneva

“This book is a testament to what John MacArthur shares with the apostle Paul, his model: steadfast tenacity and doctrinal conviction, and a true pastoral heart for his Church. It is a true blessing to see him serve in a Church of over 6,000 members, where everyone feels spiritually nourished, cherished and protected. »
- Faly Ravoahangy, pastor-missionary, Madagascar 3M
