Presentation

Preaching is going through a crisis today. We pronounce it out of fashion and it seems to no longer bear fruit in the world we live in. What should be done in such a situation? Should we give up everything, as some advocate and do? Should it be replaced by all kinds of entertainment to attract people? Or should it be made more intellectually respectable so that the world will pay attention to it?

In these pages, the author vigorously asserts that the great need of the Church today is a return to preaching in the power of the Spirit. This involves a close study of the biblical text, but also a careful reflection on who hears this Word.

Above all, it implies a deep conviction of the indispensable character of the action of the Holy Spirit on the efforts of man, powerless without it. This preaching only bears fruit when the vitality of the Spirit blows into it. It centers on Christ, on his person and his work so central to salvation. It involves the whole Church, and not just a sort of priestly caste.

A welcome book that pastors and laity alike will do well to read, reread, and put into practice.
