"Do you really understand what you are reading?
- And how could I, if I don't have a guide? »Acts 8.30 (TOB)
For centuries, the Bible has remained the most widely used book in the world: translated in whole or in part into more than 2000 languages, distributed each year at hundreds of millions of copies ... But is it understood?
We must not hide that it is a difficult book that has come to us through the centuries, emanating from a culture so different from ours, alluding to foreign mores and using bizarre modes of expression.
This book first gives us the general rules of interpretation, applicable to any difficult text. He then examines the rules peculiar to the Bible, then he studies the rules of interpretation of different biblical literary genres (stories, speeches, poetic texts, psalms, laws, prophecies, parables, epistles). Finally, he sees how to go from interpretation to application, which is the goal of this whole hermeneutical process.
