The concept today seems to serve divergent perceptions, with multiple meanings and imprecise. Each thus nourishes a different idea of secularism, republican ideal, desired balance, “secular” demands… Political speeches are inspired by it, strongly imbued with a certain ideology on the place of religions in civil society, a place of variable geometry . The backdrop of secularism is secularization, a social process of the dissociation of city affairs and religious convictions.
Finally, if it is a well-founded principle and to which Christians can be attached, the fact remains that its application poses many concrete questions to them, as well as for churches and Christian associations.
We therefore suggest that you examine the different aspects of French secularism.
