This book is undoubtedly one of the books that marked me the most at the start of my commitment to the Lord with Operation Mobilization in the sixties. It was one of the required readings before joining the evangelistic team. And for good reason, because dying to yourself, giving up your rights, letting Christ take his place, are all themes that have never been very popular. Yet they are essential for Christian growth.
Almost fifty years after reading this book for the first time, I teach Paul's letter to the Galatians at the Geneva Bible Institute. I can only note that Roy Hession's book wonderfully illustrates this key verse of the epistle: "I am crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, it is Christ who lives in me" . Far from successful empirical formulas, this book brings us back to the foundations of a Christian life that appeals to the one who enlisted us.

One of the very first books I read shortly after my conversion 45 years ago! In other words, he announced the color and set the record straight! I was impressed by the author's insight, his analysis of the so subtle and often twisted springs of human nature. Our pride can be concealed under the guise of great spirituality. A regular return to the "cross", conditioned by repentance, is therefore imperative. This book has not lost any of its topicality: it appeals to every Christian, even those who do not have a particularly oversized ego.
