Presentation

Contemporary studies of the letters to the Colossians and to Philemon have placed great emphasis on reconstructing the "backgrounds" which condition the interpretation of these documents. The author accurately assesses the merits and limitations of the various proposals. He then undertakes an exegetical and theological study with the aim of clarifying what the text really says. All of this is expressed in crystal clear prose with clear clues as to the impact of the biblical text on the Church today.

Highlights of the book

  • Richly documented, of great methodological insight and fundamentally evangelical.
  • Presents a nice balance between a solid erudition and a real pastoral concern.
  • Accessible, knowing how to meet the reader's expectations, whether teacher, student, pastor, specialist or not.
  • Each book begins with the same set of five questions: Who was the letter intended for? Who wrote it? When ? Why ? What does she teach?
  • The author divides the commentary on each letter into three main parts: the introduction, the body and the conclusion, not to mention the special thanksgiving in Philemon.
  • The volume is supplemented by indexes of names, subjects, biblical references, as well as an extrabiblical bibliography.
